Carey was 5'10 inches tall at the time she was a leading model. The popularity of her with American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was high. Her father, who was a renowned scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is an accomplished scientist. Carey went to all over the world in honor of her father's efforts. In her college years she started modeling part-time and attracted the attention from Ford model Agency representatives in New York. She lived in France briefly, in Paris as well as Bordeaux. Then she returned in New York for her college studies and to further develop her career as a model. As a model, she studied at New York University full-time to earn a master's degree in literature. Her interest grew in acting and started taking classes in the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986 she made her first appearance as an actor with a small part as a minor character in "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. Her leisure time is spent skiing, wind surfing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water white water rafting.
